- I have a friend who has bought a new USR 28.8 V33.6 Sportster and I
- have spent 4 hours trying to get the modem to even recognize the AT
- commands. Also the modem will dial and connect but I can not get any
- data from the answering BBS etc. All I get are garbage characters or a
- blank screen. I have tried Win95 based software, DOS based programs &
- different machines without any luck! The modem does not issue back an
- OK at all. It only give me back garbage characters like !@# or nothing
- at all ie. a blank screen. I am using the same modem cable that I have
- for another 28.8 which works fine with no problem. I have tried using
- the program TERMINATE and an old version of QMODEM test drive from DOS
- with no luck at all. I had the dip switches with only 3,5 and 8 on and
- also have tried flipping the dip switches which I CAN FIND NO
- EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER IN THE SO CALLED MANUAL.
-
- This is the 2nd Sportster 33.6 modem that he has had since I assumed
- that the first one which did the exact same thing was faulty so he
- returned it! I have been using modems for the past 15 years and this
- is the first modem that I could not get to recognize simple AT
- commands! I use to think that USR modems were good ones but this
- experience has left a different view one I will past on to my
- remaining <g> friends and customers.
-
- If you have any suggestions please email me if possible. Thanks.
